This has to be the best story in 2008. President Bush goes to Iraq to speak about the war and to tell the people of Iraq that the war was necessary and it is not over during a news conference with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. (Why didn't he do that in the safety of your own home instead of going to the place that the war is in)?
Out of nowhere 2 shoes were thrown at president bush. Lmaoooo omg I know he's my president but I just can’t stop laughing. The shoe thrower was Muntadar al-Zeidi, a correspondent for Al-Baghdadia television. Neither the President nor the Prime Minister was hit with the size 10 shoes. After he threw the shoes he shouted "the war is over."
This goes to show how much respect there is for the President of the United States. Never in my life have I seen something like this. It's very sad to see he's lost so much over sees.

Kayne West applying for job
Kayne West is apparently looking for a pre-entry level job in London. The very famous rapper has decided to pursue his dream in the fashion industry and is currently looking to do internship in Louis Vuitton and Raf Simons. He says he's always been interested in fashion and looks to do the normal thing. (Whatever that is)As for the rapping he'll leave that for the weekend.
According to some people Kayne will soon release his own fashion line called Pastelle. We could only wish you good luck and lots of success.

DATING!!
So there is this article in the NYT that talks about the "new" hooking up. In which hooking up isn't just the sex with a friend no strings attached phenomenon that happened years ago, it’s more of a let’s hang out and see where it goes. The article says that people chose to "hook up" rather than date because it takes off the pressure of a relationship. A survey done says white females are more frequent daters...meaning they actually take the time to know the person and the never daters, just hooker-uppers (if that’s even a word) are black males.
So what do you think of this “new” trend? Is it really new or more modified because of all the dangerous situations we could get ourselves into by doing the old hey...wanna have sex...attitude. It should make us think of what type of dater (if that) we are. Do we go out with friends and hope to meet someone, fall in love and get married or is it just hey…lets hook up?

Young people and the economic crisis...what about us?
As you must know we are in an economic crisis, AHHHHHHH!!!! The affects of this crisis is being felt all over America from every single person living here. This is from the 2 year old who can't get all the gifts he asked for on Christmas to 60 year old looking for ways to pay the mortgage.
What about the people in between? What about us? Young people ages 16-24 have lost about 900 jobs. That may not seem a lot but when it's your job being cut it makes a difference. Employers are looking for the older group of Americans such as 55 and up who are forced to go back to work to make ends meet. The reason is because they actually work harder than younger people, are more responsible and take lower wages.
Will there be more job cuts for our age group? Is this just a phase?
So where does this leave us? Only time will tell

Geeze Louis...
A 70 year old woman in India is said to be the oldest woman to give birth to her first child. She delivered a baby girl last month by Caesarean section. She was conceived through in vitro fertilization and was born November 28. The mother Rajo Devi is 70 and her husband is 72 years old, after being married for 55 years and no children they decided to have one. She is said to be very happy and the baby girl is doing well.
Wow what a story 70 years old and having babies. They said 50s are the new 20s, so is 70 the new 40s?
Wish them both the best of luck and Congratulations on the new buddle of joy.

smh...3 officers, 1 man, big case
A New York City patrolman used his baton to sodomize a man in a subway station, and two complicit colleagues helped him cover it up. The grand jury heard from 20 witnesses, and at least 3 different officers who were present during the encounter.
There's been a lot of skepticism in this case regarding the time of day it happened, the place and the people involved. However evidence heard during the trial seemed to clear a few things up. Michael Mineo was tortured and sodomized after being chased by an officer who caught him smoking marijuana. After this ordeal he was given just a summons and told to not to report it to anyone or his charges would get upgraded to felony...sounds funky? The answer is yes.
Following questions:
-Smoking marijuana is illegal...why wasn’t he taken to the precinct?
-If this happened October 15, 2008 why was he given a summons for January 2008? (Fyi-January passed already)
A few thoughts to keep in mind

Missing girl still not found
Laura Garza a 25 year old Brooklyn woman disappeared last Wednesday and still hasn’t been found. She was last seen with Michael Mele a 23 year old sex offender. Before her disappearance she was seen together with him at least twice and on the day she vanished they were seen leaving a Chelsea night club. Police are still investigating the case and have yet to find Laura.
Word to advise to women out there please don't talk to strangers or guys that are weird, or that seem too good to be true. The lesson your mom taught you when you were small about if someone approached that you didn’t know to run also applies to adult life. Don’t get in random cars and Please! Please! Please!!!!!! If you're going to go out to a club or hang out don't do it by yourself. Always have a buddy system and never get to drunk to do anything stupid. You never know when the next nightly news will be about you (God forbid).
Be safe and smart :)

MTA...bailout? MTA...fair hikes? What in the world is going on????!!
I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but what the french toast is going on with our economy? The government wants to bailout out everyone. First it was banks, now the auto industry and even the MTA is looking for a piece of the pie.
Question: who's going to bail out the consumers, the tax payers? Goodness gracious can someone give MEEE a break?!!! I am seriously tired of these companies looking for the easy way out.
I cannot believe the MTA on top of wanting a bailout wants to increase fair hikes from $2.00 to 2.50 or $3.00. UMmm they just had a increase in the fairs like three years ago, and maybe I wouldn't be so against the idea if the service was better. But NO!! The service sucks, train conductors and bus operators are rude, the bus and trains are never on time, annndd there is always some kind of problem on the track especially on the weekends.
I'm soooo aggravated with this situation....I need to breathe lol (breathing)

Gay Marriages now a possibility for Connecticut residents
I heard in the news this morning on Fox 5 that a law was passed letting same sex couples get married in Connecticut. There were 4 couples who petitioned the court for this law and they won. This morning hundreds of same sex couples went to city hall to get married. Many however have to wait for months because of the numerous amounts of people who applied. You could just imagine the long waiting list.
One surprising factor was that there were no protestors outside the courthouse. It was a peaceful event. The Governor of Connecticut who opposed this law from the beginning when hearing the news did not ask for an appeal.
Hmm makes you think history is being made...first Obama (first black president elected) and now same sex marriages being accepted or at least tolerated.
COOL BEANS!! :)

New stadiums...no World Series??
Okay so I know I'm a little late with figuring all this out being that I've had a lot to these past couple of weeks. But let’s get to the real point I'm trying to make here as a follow up to one of my blogs about the Yankee Stadium. So, let’s get the story straight here... The Yankees and The Mets both are receiving new stadiums for next season worth millions if not billions of dollars. NYC tax payers are paying for this by the way. So we get to the playoffs and we see both teams struggling to get to World Series. After a long "hard" battle...Neither team managed to go to the World Series. On top of that I thought that because we gave them new stadiums and they didn't go to the world series the least they could do is offer the tickets for next season at a lower price. Well ummm I guess I thought wrong, prices for the seats are increasing. What in the world you say? I know me too. So let’s break this down:
-NEW BILLION DOLLAR stadium (at tax payers’ expense)
-Ticket prices INCREASED
-NO TEAM WENT TO THE WORLD SERIES
Does anybody else see a problem with this? I say we should take the stadiums back till one of the teams brings the World Series Championship back to New York.

Funniest Moments ever on SNL
Wow!!Can we all congratulate Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler for their outstanding role as Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin? I personally saw the sketch and I loved it. Both sides were expressed perfectly to my views. They basically played the part of the scandal and rumors going around this entire election. It made the election fun again. One of the head writers for SNL said the trick with all of these people is to try to come out as fair and evenhanded as possible. This SNL episode was the highest-rated edition of the show since 2002, according to Nielsen's preliminary ratings. And on top of that it has been viewed more than five million times on YouTube and nbc.com.
I give this article a score of 5 for its timeliness being that the elections are around the corner, the currency because everyone was talking about this sketch. It had emotionalism because of the humor it held and it had prominence because it obviously involved famous people acting out other famous people.

Yankees' Deal May Have Violated Law...OMG!!
That's right ladies and gentlemen our famous Yankee's may have violated federal tax regulations and state laws in using $943 MILLIONNN in tax-exempt bonds to build the baseball team's new stadium, according to a report issued on Tuesday by Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky. Well, who really knows the facts here? This stadium is costing the city of the Bronx $1.3 Billion. In return Brodsky says that we are getting little in return because the ticket prices are going to be much higher than what they are now, and we lost a park, the new Yankee Stadium is built on a parkland. Brodsky said this deal does not serve the public's interest. It serves the Yankees' interest.
The Yankees have commented to put these rumors to a stop. Yankee executives said that they will employ an additional 1,000 people, not the 15 listed in project documents. A large Yankees' team store and restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafe will be open year round, they said. The stadium is set to open February 2009.
In this world of politics you never know who’s telling the truth. I leave you with a quote/question from Mr. Brodsky... We do things for professional sports we wouldn't do for any other business. Is that fair???
I rate this article as a 3- It shows three journalism qualities such as impact on people because it's directly affecting the people of the Bronx, proximity being that yesterday was the last day of games in the old stadium, and in some cases public service because it is a service and an institution offered to the public to it gets a lot of attention.

Dangers Lurk Closer to Home
It's amazing but very true. According to Ileana Arias, from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention accidental injuries are the number 1 killers of kids. She says studies have shown that unintentional injuries such as suffocation, poisoning, and car accidents caused more than 4,000 deaths in children within the ages of 1 to 14.
We think of so many dangers as we become parents and sometimes our own home is the deadliest scenery we can offer our children. The article interested me because I am about to be a new mom and I just can't imagine how many dangers there are out there for our children. Kidnapping, sexual abuse, and childhood cancer are the number one things parents come up with when thinking of the worst things that could happen to their children, the bad thing is that's not all the dangers lurking around.
I would rate this article as a 2- I found it in a special section of the NYT. I think this article connects well with education & public service and sensationalism because it offers an eye opener for parents and it plays on the idea of treats endangering our family.

Chief Forced Out at Washington Mutual
Yes that is right could our economy get any worse or uncertain? Will Washington Mutual be the next bank to be taken over by the government? The reason for my questioning...I work for Washington Mutual.
One of the longest and chief executives of Washington Mutual Kerry K. Killinger was forced to "retire" or should I say was fired Sunday night. After a long journey dealing with the subprime mortgages and credit card loans that obviously failed he was forced to leave the company he helped built for 18 years. Don't get too sad Killinger was said to leave his position with a package of $23.5 MILLION...ummm can you ask me to leave my job with this package, I sure wouldn't mind. Amazing after they don't know how to run a financial institution they managed to reward him with money. Oh gosh! No wonder Washington Mutual is disappearing in the financial market.
Replacing Killinger is Alan H. Fisherman who is noted to have sold Independence Community Bank to Sovereign Bank for a hefty price. Rumor has it JP Morgan has repeatedly offered to buy WaMu but Killinger refused. So who really knows what's going to happen now. Should I begin to buy a different uniform?

"In a Small Texas School District, Some Teachers Carry Books and Pistols"
By reading this title, what can you possibly imagine this article is about? It was Friday's New York Times.
The reason behind me choosing this article is because we had a similar situation at City College last semester. Not so much teachers bringing guns in the school grounds but we did have a gun men on school premises who took someone hostage.
This article is about Texas teachers bringing guns to school. Can you believe that? Teachers are being authorized to carry concealed weapons to school for protection from mass gun men. I do understand the concern for protection but do you really think teachers although trained are the best people to have with guns as they teach our children? James McKinley Jr. the journalist who wrote it went to Harrold Texas, which is about 180 miles north of Dallas to cover the story. He spoke to Republican governor Rick Perry who endorsed the idea of guns being allowed in schools. My question is who would accept this law? This endangers the lives of our children and other people who might work at the school. It just creates unnecessary chaos in a place where children are suppose to feel safe. They blame this on the Columbine massacre that happened in 1999. One teacher in particular supported this idea 100% because he feels schools are a target for tragedies to happen.
Something that surprised me other than this is the fact that one of the spoke woman for the Texas Education Agency said the state's hands were tied. "We have really tried not to get involved in this," Ms. Debbie Ratcliffe said. -->can someone explain this to me? How can the Texas Education Agency which is basically the Board of Education in NYC not do anything about the situation? They choose not to get involved? How can you just walk away from something so serious? And it dawned on me if it’s not bringing in money for the state who cares… right? Finally the story ends with the big bang....parents were NOT informed of this new law they put into place in this school district. WOW!! Can you say it too?
It's amazing that everyone takes this lightly and no one seems to care about the well-being of the children. It just seems crazy how children are “our future” and yet we don't think twice about the danger we may cause around them.
