Wow!!Can we all congratulate Tiny Fey and Amy Poehler for their outstanding role as Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin? I personally saw the sketch and I loved it. Both sides were expressed perfectly to my views. They basically played the part of the scandal and rumors going around this entire election. It made the election fun again. One of the head writers for SNL said the trick with all of these people is to try to come out as fair and evenhanded as possible. This SNL episode was the highest-rated edition of the show since 2002, according to Nielsen's preliminary ratings. And on top of that it has been viewed more than five million times on YouTube and nbc.com.
I give this article a score of 5 for its timeliness being that the elections are around the corner, the currency because everyone was talking about this sketch. It had emotionalism because of the humor it held and it had prominence because it obviously involved famous people acting out other famous people.

Yankees' Deal May Have Violated Law...OMG!!
That's right ladies and gentlemen our famous Yankee's may have violated federal tax regulations and state laws in using $943 MILLIONNN in tax-exempt bonds to build the baseball team's new stadium, according to a report issued on Tuesday by Assemblyman Richard L. Brodsky. Well, who really knows the facts here? This stadium is costing the city of the Bronx $1.3 Billion. In return Brodsky says that we are getting little in return because the ticket prices are going to be much higher than what they are now, and we lost a park, the new Yankee Stadium is built on a parkland. Brodsky said this deal does not serve the public's interest. It serves the Yankees' interest.
The Yankees have commented to put these rumors to a stop. Yankee executives said that they will employ an additional 1,000 people, not the 15 listed in project documents. A large Yankees' team store and restaurants like the Hard Rock Cafe will be open year round, they said. The stadium is set to open February 2009.
In this world of politics you never know who’s telling the truth. I leave you with a quote/question from Mr. Brodsky... We do things for professional sports we wouldn't do for any other business. Is that fair???
I rate this article as a 3- It shows three journalism qualities such as impact on people because it's directly affecting the people of the Bronx, proximity being that yesterday was the last day of games in the old stadium, and in some cases public service because it is a service and an institution offered to the public to it gets a lot of attention.

Dangers Lurk Closer to Home
It's amazing but very true. According to Ileana Arias, from the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention accidental injuries are the number 1 killers of kids. She says studies have shown that unintentional injuries such as suffocation, poisoning, and car accidents caused more than 4,000 deaths in children within the ages of 1 to 14.
We think of so many dangers as we become parents and sometimes our own home is the deadliest scenery we can offer our children. The article interested me because I am about to be a new mom and I just can't imagine how many dangers there are out there for our children. Kidnapping, sexual abuse, and childhood cancer are the number one things parents come up with when thinking of the worst things that could happen to their children, the bad thing is that's not all the dangers lurking around.
I would rate this article as a 2- I found it in a special section of the NYT. I think this article connects well with education & public service and sensationalism because it offers an eye opener for parents and it plays on the idea of treats endangering our family.

Chief Forced Out at Washington Mutual
Yes that is right could our economy get any worse or uncertain? Will Washington Mutual be the next bank to be taken over by the government? The reason for my questioning...I work for Washington Mutual.
One of the longest and chief executives of Washington Mutual Kerry K. Killinger was forced to "retire" or should I say was fired Sunday night. After a long journey dealing with the subprime mortgages and credit card loans that obviously failed he was forced to leave the company he helped built for 18 years. Don't get too sad Killinger was said to leave his position with a package of $23.5 MILLION...ummm can you ask me to leave my job with this package, I sure wouldn't mind. Amazing after they don't know how to run a financial institution they managed to reward him with money. Oh gosh! No wonder Washington Mutual is disappearing in the financial market.
Replacing Killinger is Alan H. Fisherman who is noted to have sold Independence Community Bank to Sovereign Bank for a hefty price. Rumor has it JP Morgan has repeatedly offered to buy WaMu but Killinger refused. So who really knows what's going to happen now. Should I begin to buy a different uniform?

"In a Small Texas School District, Some Teachers Carry Books and Pistols"
By reading this title, what can you possibly imagine this article is about? It was Friday's New York Times.
The reason behind me choosing this article is because we had a similar situation at City College last semester. Not so much teachers bringing guns in the school grounds but we did have a gun men on school premises who took someone hostage.
This article is about Texas teachers bringing guns to school. Can you believe that? Teachers are being authorized to carry concealed weapons to school for protection from mass gun men. I do understand the concern for protection but do you really think teachers although trained are the best people to have with guns as they teach our children? James McKinley Jr. the journalist who wrote it went to Harrold Texas, which is about 180 miles north of Dallas to cover the story. He spoke to Republican governor Rick Perry who endorsed the idea of guns being allowed in schools. My question is who would accept this law? This endangers the lives of our children and other people who might work at the school. It just creates unnecessary chaos in a place where children are suppose to feel safe. They blame this on the Columbine massacre that happened in 1999. One teacher in particular supported this idea 100% because he feels schools are a target for tragedies to happen.
Something that surprised me other than this is the fact that one of the spoke woman for the Texas Education Agency said the state's hands were tied. "We have really tried not to get involved in this," Ms. Debbie Ratcliffe said. -->can someone explain this to me? How can the Texas Education Agency which is basically the Board of Education in NYC not do anything about the situation? They choose not to get involved? How can you just walk away from something so serious? And it dawned on me if it’s not bringing in money for the state who cares… right? Finally the story ends with the big bang....parents were NOT informed of this new law they put into place in this school district. WOW!! Can you say it too?
It's amazing that everyone takes this lightly and no one seems to care about the well-being of the children. It just seems crazy how children are “our future” and yet we don't think twice about the danger we may cause around them.
